Couch Commerce, rising mobile payment trend

Sunday, 5 February, 2012

Merchant service account evo canada payment processing The recent US Thanksgiving holiday weekend showed positive retail sales comparatives to the previous year, indicating that the economy is showing signs of improvement.

Shoppers were out and about in abundance, both in traditional retail and online before, during and after one of the most important holiday seasons for US retail. As online retail sales continue to trend upwards, so has the rise of mobile purchases and this holiday season was exceptionally positive for this emerging sector.

IBM’s Coremetrics retail data division stated an annual increase of 39% in online sales over last year with significance on emerging mobile shopping trends. Consumers opting for mobile devices to visit retailers’ websites versus traditional computers or laptops, rose from 6.45% in 2010 to 15.2% this year and actual consumers making an online purchase increased to 11.09% up from 4.25% in 2010.

eBay has termed this emerging trend as “couch commerce” where most consumers find time in-between turkey, football and family, to surf and shop the web from the comfort of their living room using a tablet or mobile device.

As shopping gets more “comfortable” and more mobile devices become accessible to the general population, perhaps we’ll finally see the end to the massive pile-ups of people running into stores on US’s Black Friday and Canada’s Boxing Day.

Get paid to shop – App Delivers Foot Traffic to Retailers on a Silver Platter

Tuesday, 31 January, 2012

As Web technology continues to improve and offer better online shopping experiences, many people are taking this route to do their shopping and pulling business away from traditional brick and mortar retailers.

In an effort to utilize these same technological advancements, Shopkick, a California based company, is giving retailers a chance to regain those customers by creating a simple rewards program to get people into physical stores. The idea is to reward customers for entering a store, whereby a participating retailer gives points or “kicks” just for walking through the door. Going a step further, through the use of a smartphone, that same physical store becomes interactive with surprise discounts and offers sent while the user is shopping adding a whole new dynamic to the physical retail experience.

The points or “kicks” can be used and redeemed against a number of various products and services such as iTunes gift cards, restaurant vouchers, Facebook credits, appliances and even used to book vacations. Shopkick allows customers to shop freely, earn rewards, access exclusive offers and redeem points for exciting products and services.

Major retailers such as American Eagle, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Target and Macy’s are currently set-up and using the service; recently Shopkick partnered with Visa to offer their rewards program for purchases made with credit or debit card.

Local businesses are on Shopkick’s mind as well, which is why they are launching a new program to select 1000 small businesses to partake in the next phase of the apps development. Sign-up today at www.shopkick.com and perhaps you too can be on your way to driving more store traffic!

The holidays are coming, time to think gift cards

Monday, 28 February, 2011

With the holiday season around the corner and one of the biggest selling times of the year for most retailers, merchants scramble to get organized in order to maximize sales. One of the easiest gift ideas consumers tend to favor when stuck on what to buy for a friend or loved one is a gift card. It’s fast and easy to purchase and leaves the recipient with open options as to what, when and how to buy.

In 2009 alone, over $1.8 billion was spent on gift cards in Canada, a staggering number to say the least that demonstrates a clear opportunity to connect with consumers and drive new business. On the premise of offering a complete service, EVO Canada has teamed up with top third party gift card providers and can easily incorporate this into existing merchant services offered.  Use gift cards to grow sales, increase store traffic and acquire new customers, as a promotional tool or simply to reduce paper waste and time management by replacing manual paper versions.

Help your customers give gifts, gain new customers as a result of it and continue to drive your business through this holiday season.
